On 28th November, HHJ Martin Jackson was appointed to the office of Honourary Recorder of the City of Hereford.
Mayor of Hereford, Cllr Kevin Tillett, pictured with Martin, gave our warmest congratulations to Martin and thanked him for his many years of service.
Until the Courts Act of 1971 the City of Hereford was honoured to appoint a member of the Judiciary to the post of Recorder of the City, charged with the duties of dispensing justice within the City in the Court of Quarter Sessions.
Changes in legislation in the Administration of Justice enacted by the Courts Act 1971, including the abolition of the Courts of Quarter Sessions, meant that the post of Honourary Recorder of the City was introduced with effect from 1st January 1972.
By a resolution passed at a meeting of Hereford City Council on the 25th June 2024, in recognition of his distinguished service in the Administration of Justice in the City of Hereford, His Honour Judge Martin Jackson is appointed as the sixth Honourary Recorder of the City of Hereford.
