The Death of His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh

Statement on behalf of Mayor of Hereford Kath Hey;

“Here at Hereford City Council, City Councillors and staff were greatly saddened to hear of the passing of HRH Prince Phillip. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this sad time.

The Duke of Edinburgh was an inspiration to many, having championed numerous important causes such as environmental issues and the value of outdoor activities for young people. Many can still remember partaking in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, a fantastic initiative which gave many of our nation’s young people the chance to experience outdoor activity in positive and constructive ways.

Prince Phillip visited our County on several occasions, with his first in 1957 and his last in 2012 during the Diamond Day celebrations. These visits still serve as memorable occasions for our City and are remembered fondly as days of great celebration.

As Consort to the Queen, Prince Phillip dedicated his life to supporting Her Majesty in her duties, and this lasting legacy will not be forgotten. The City Council would like to express sincere gratitude for all his remarkable achievements. He will be sorely missed.”
