Governance and Procedures covers a number of aspects of the civic and administrative affairs of the city. It is the committee that considers awards such as Mayor’s Commendations or Freedom of the City before they are referred to full Council. Any new civic ceremonies or special events such as the Rifles Homecoming are managed through this committee.
It also considers staffing issues such as new job descriptions, changes to grades etc. and maintains scrutiny of the Council’s employment policies to ensure they keep up with changes in employment law. The committee also receives audit reports on non-financial matters and annually considers if any revision is necessary to the Council’s Standing Orders, the rules under which all committees and Council itself operate as a decision making bodies. Finally, the committee monitors the preservation of the civic treasures and artifacts, and the way the Council manages its risks.
